Gammon / Ham for New Yewar

Post by CD »

Hi,

We're looking for a mild cure gammon leg to do for New Year, but can't seem to get the locals (well, SuperU) to understand what we're after.

"Jambon" only seems to result in ham of the slicing variety and a "cuisse de jambon" was clearly not understood.

Is such a thing as an uncooked gammon joint available around here? (Prades area)

All the best to everyone for Christmas!

Good luck. I had much the same problem sourcing a large boned and rolled piece of brisket but have succeeded on 2 occasions from 2 different sources. Once from a local butcher here in Argeles and once from the in house butcher at Dia in Elne.

Roti de porc demi sel? Fumé if you want it smoked. Tis the nearest to gammon I can think of. Possibly also jambon rouelle if you can find it, tho haven't seen any round here in supermarkets so would need to ask a boucher. Bon ap. Hope I'm sending you down the right track!
