There are always a few fires in summer, usually coinciding with the first week of the holidays when people from wetter climes habituated to chucking fags out of their car window find themselves in a landscape full of very dry grass.Phipplebert wrote:Hi, for the naive of us and not yet totally savvy with the area, can someone gets to speed on fires please we are down near Le Boulou on weds for a week and due to move near there in sept (wahoo ). How often do fires occur? I see someone mentioned an alarm/siren, how does this work? Etc etc thanks in advance:)
Not sure I understand your question about the siren. It goes off when there's a fire reported to tell the volunteer firemen to report for duty. They have practice sirens too. Usually every week.

Hi
This might help on the siren front.
www.anglophone-direct.com/Emergency-Siren-network?
They are national so you probably have the same where you are moving from.
We have been very lucky round here with fires. This is the first one of any note round here (Maureillas, just next to the Boulou) since we bought our house in 2003.

From Sorede, I can see dirty clouds are building over the Spanish border. This would be a little west from Neulos. I have been watching for an hour and it's getting bigger across the border. The Canadairs are not watering them neither. I think I'll have a look over this tonight.

Rather bad taste but do you think there are a few truckers in La Jonquera listening to "My Sex is On Fire" tonight?

There are four Canadairs cycling from Spain, drop their load, and return to Argeles and refill the planes. They take, on the average is 18 minutes. The four planes fly over McDo each time. I want to ask the owner if he can create a "Formule Canadair". They could serve a "Fireburger" or possibly a bbq special. The only drink would be water.
The Indep is gruesome today.

Smoke clouds have cleared overnight. All roads open and traffic moving without problem that I can see. Think it will take many weeks to clear up physical devastation and much longer mentally for those affected by it.

The bar/cafe at Villefranche is a bit of shrine to the flying firemen.blackduff wrote:There are four Canadairs cycling from Spain, drop their load, and return to Argeles and refill the planes.
