Hi all :)

Not much of a summer in the UK

Quote: The UK’s average temperature from June 1 to August 15 was only 57F (13.9C) – the lowest for 13 years.

For central England the average was 59F (15C), making it the coolest summer since 1993.

Helen Waite, a Met Office forecaster, said: “The average temperature for central England this summer has been just 15C – this sort of temperature is normally typical of September.

“Generally speaking, you would expect to see temperatures of at least 17C for this time of year.”

Hi all :)

It could be a cold winter in the UK

Quote: A long range weather forecaster is predicting an early start to winter 2011-2012 for many regions of the United Kingdom and Ireland. James Madden of Exacta Weather says heavy snowfalls are likely in places as soon as late October and early November.

Last week, UK-based Positive Weather Solutions also predicted that the winter months will be colder than average everywhere and that some regions will experience significantly colder than average temperatures between December and March.

The agency, which has a relatively high success rate in its long range weather predictions, has also given a 36% chance of the Ireland and Britain experiencing a White Christmas. This prediction in reflected in the latest odds from William Hill Bookmakers who have given shortened odds of snow falling on Christmas Day.

Hi all :)

Arctic ice melt

Quote: New ice is starting to form in the Arctic, and it looks like 2011 has a possibility of becoming the shortest melt season (time from peak to minimum) on record. Longer polar melt seasons are a fundamental tenet of global warming theory.

Hi all :)

The US could be heading for a colder Winter

Quote: The coming U.S. winter may be the coldest in more than 10 years, Commodity Weather Group LLC said in its seasonal forecast.

Temperatures will range from 1 to 3 degrees Fahrenheit (0.5 to 1.7 Celsius) below normal across much of the U.S., according to the forecast. The period from November to March is expected to be 2.4 percent colder than last year, said Bethesda, Maryland-based CWG.

“This would be the coldest winter since 2000-01,” the company said.

Hi all :)

November came out as a milder month compared to 2010
However the drawback was less sunshine & increased precipitation
Plus not many will forget the 21st in a hurry !

There's plenty of snow in other parts of the world

Quote: The Alaska National Guard reported more than 18 feet of snow has fallen on Cordova in the past weeks, although the National Weather Service did not immediately have a measurement.

Re: Weather in March

Post by Sav »

BT wrote: I an thinking about heading to St Cyp late March. What temps can I expect?
I was there in Feb 5 years ago, found it very cold at night.
Ok, let's track back 5 years locally ;)

March 2011
It went down to 3.4°C in the second half of March, but picked up well
towards the end, peaking at 14.3°C.
Average 7.9°C

March 2010
The later part of the month it dipped down to 8.2°C
Average 5.8°C

March 2009
Down to 7°C at the end of the month
Average 7.4°C

March 2008
Down to 6.8°C at the end
Average 7.9°C

March 2007
Only 2°C was recorded on the 26th
Average 7.4°C
http://www.meteociel.fr/

Nothing too extreme there, but there will always be exceptions with the weather.
The wind effect will also make it feel much cooler, take a coat to be on the safe side, but probably ok to not pack the sledge in hand luggage ;)

Nigel and Karen wrote:I find its all to do with the sun!

so for me av hrs sun is more important!
Very true, the sun can make it feel much warmer when it's out.
However once it vanishes behind a cloud, then the temp difference is noticeable.
Which is why accurate temp recording is done in the shade, or we would have some wild temp records
As for the sun having an influence on our climate, well that's another topic ;)
