Recent experience of the Restaurant Amphitryon in Collioure

Post by John & Elaine »

Sadly changed hands and fallen from grace! It was one of the most consistently reliable restaurants in Collioure - now to be avoided. Shame! With those great views it will probably still be busy!!

Maybe it would help if you can explain what has gone wrong. Is it the service, the standard of food preparation, change of cuisine or something else.

What does really amaze me is that France prides itself on a world beating culinary tradition. There are numerous college courses devoted to all aspects of hospitality. How come, if recent threads like "Falling Standards" are a true reflection of things, do they manage to get it so wrong, so often?

Hi Noel

Cuisine much the same. Service OK. Food dire - both meats and fish. Puds mediocre.

Cos they all get jobs overseas. That said, there are plenty of good restaurants here, given the size of the population and the average income.

Reminds me of the Le Relais de Pigasse on the Canal du Midi that was seasonal. One year if didn't open as the chef and his team apparently decided to stay on doing their winter job in a flash Caribbean hotel.
