Kecap Manis

Post by blackduff »

Help, my sources for Kecap Manis are empty now. Kecap Manis used to be available at the Asia Market in Argeles and always at the Asia Center in Mas Guerido.

The Asia Market does not handle this anymore. When my wife was at the Asia Center, they do not have this product anymore. In fact, they have changed their delivery company and the Kecap Manis will not be provided again.

Since I use a weekly recipe, it's going to be a serious loss. Currently I have a bottle of Kecap Manis from Lidl but this isn't the "real" thing. This is thin and fluid whereas the real Kecap Manis is thick as treacle.

So, if somebody uses this product and buys this in the Perpignan area, please tell me where to find my "loss". I took the last four bottles I owned from my larder and brought this to my brother-in-law in Montreal last month.

HELP!!!!!!!

you could always try the 2 other asian suppliers in perp. there is one at the crossroads in the centre of town opposite the large casino supermarket just before you get to fnac.or there is another in the grand st.charles area . with the clinic st. pierre on your left drive west under the m/way(towards point p) and on the right you will find the other asia market.
good luck

The place near the Casino is at the Thai restaurant. It's right across from the Mobilephone shop. I'll visit them next week.

Same for the place near the Clinic St. Pierre. This is called "Mexotica" I think. I've been there before but they're not too large. Yet, I will visit them too.

If I find some again, I'm going to buy a bunch of bottles.

I think that the people at Asia Center in Mas Guerido heard that Kecap Manis needs~still. I was there last week and they had them on the shelves. I bought four bottles, just in case.

If you put "kecap manis" into Google and then turn it over to images, it shows all kinds of different recipes, that look very tasty.

Drive over and buy a bottle from the store and they're going to understand that people buy this product. Mention that you're from the A-D, which uses adverts on the PO Life.

Isn't kepac manis just a hot chilli sauce?

Not at all. It's sweet and not spicy like chlli sauce.

"Kecap manis
Sweet soy sauce, which has a thick, almost syrupy consistency and a pronounced sweet, treacle-like flavor due to generous addition of palm sugar. It is a unique variety; in a pinch, it may be replaced by molasses with a little vegetable stock stirred in."

Google for Kecap Manis and select images. You'll find a whole bunch of nice recipes using Kecap Manis. Most of the use of Kecap Manis is for Indoeasian countries. The Aussies use this a lot too.

Dutch use this ingredient in their recipes.

In a lot of Chinese cooking, especially Cantonese, soy sauce and sugar are added. This must come to the same thing.
