Naudo Beach Club Canet

Post by allanwallis »

This is the tented building on the beach at the south end of Canet, near to the Hotel Flamants Roses.

We eat out a lot and have found Naudo to be consistently better than most and so we have become regulars there, it is definitely our favourite restaurant in the region.

We went there on saturday night and had an exceptional meal with 12 hour slow cooked catalan lamb and grilled gambas from the Bay of Roses.

The owner describes the cuisine as semi-gastronomique which is probably a fair description - everything is exceptionally well presented and traditional dishes have a modern twist to them. You also get proper sized portions..

The setting is great, right down on the beach and a bonus last night was that we got to see the St Cyprien Fireworks (albeit from a distance) around the bay without even leaving our seats and without the traffic jams afterwards. A couple of weeks ago we also saw the Canet fireworks from there.

It isn't cheap but its good value for money, 3 courses with drinks, wine and coffee come out at about €90 for 2.

Naudo Beach Club Canet Sud

Post by Rivesaltes Johnny »

It was with some expectation that on a recent visit we decided to try this up market beach club. There are numerous pop up places on the beach that come and go for the summer months and this place is a pretty impressive tented place at a prime spot across the road from the camping at Canet Sud

The décor within is stylish with spaciously arranged tables and pretty sophisticated feel to the place. I was drawn to the place on recommendation of the following trusted blog http://thefrenchtourco.blogspot.com/201 ... chive.html and so duly booked a table.

We arrived and were shown to a prime table beach side with uninterrupted views and really were impressed with the menu that was a touch up from the normal fare you encounter in the region.

We plumped for the Gambas Croquante and the Pata Negra Ham to start and were impressed… this could be good… Next our choice of the slow cooked duck leg (confit) was out of stock and would be substituted by the ubiquitous Magret. The other main was the Calamari from the plancha with red pepper jus. Good visual presentation was marred on two fronts… squid was served only lukewarm and the duck breast was woefully undercooked… so raw in fact it was impossible to eat.

For us the whole meal was marred by service that was slow, disinterested and staffed by what Mrs RJ stated were “Morons”…. There was little effort to come back and check if we were enjoying our meal despite having sent the Duck back for a further grilling!!!

Dessert were not much better the salted caramel ice cream when it finally arrived was a molten mess but the Gateau NBC was better but totally the wrong cutlery served with it.

The spot we thought initially was an ideal one then turned out to be the major through route for the kids to get to the beach and other guests wandering backwards and forwards… it was busier than the M25 at peak times and guests kept apologising (says a lot about table arrangements).

The owner wandered past in his swim wear with his boxer dog in tow and overall I felt the place lacked the professionalism I would have looked for with the prices they charge – eg rose wine was barely chilled and water carafe was warm. Waitresses both (only two of them serving) had personality bypasses and seemed in a world of their own.

Total cost 83 euros was expensive for a major disappointment… would not rush back but the setting was great!
