carcassonne suggestions

Post by rbg »

Anyone know a good reliable cheap and cheerful restaurant in the cité in Carcassonne for a group of 8 for a lunch?

Thanks!

By chance we were in Carcassonne for a meeting recently and it was at a
beautiful hotel which I thought would make a great lunch place for you ! It is not in the town being just a couple of minutes from the airport exit and they have a golf
club and apparently do inexpensive but excellent lunches.

Here are the details and directions:

Le Domaine d'Auriac, Route de Saint-Hilaire, 11000 Carcassonne. Directions
attached. Tél: 04 68

The Domaine is quite easy to find from the A 61 exit for Carcassonne
airport. Immediately after the peage and there is the inevitable roundabout
at which you take the first exit right. At all times you will be following
the red cross signs for the centre hospitalier as the Domaine is just before
it. Follow up and over the hill and you will come to a T junction with a set
of lights at which you should turn left. [right is the bis route to
Perpignan / road from Limoux ] Follow straight on until you come to a
roundabout at which you turn right across the river. Follow this road [Route
de St Hilaire] over a small roundabout until you start to go slightly uphill
round a sharp left hand bend. The Domaine entrance is now on your right, on
that bend. It is a very nice country style manor house. If you reach the
Hospital on the right you have missed it.

Here's what the first party we recommended reported back: "Le Domaine d' Auriac was fantastic. We didn't have the appetite to do
justice
to the 150 euros menu in the main restaurant but the Bistro at 16 euros was
more our mark! There are two choices for each course and between us we
sampled everything. It was really good and well presented, and the service
was slick despite the bistro being full of golfers as there was a tournament
in progress. Afterwards we walked through the beautiful grounds.
An excellent recommendation, John."
