Jewel in the mountain
le Diamont Noir in Montferrer is probably the best food I have tasted in this area. The proprietors Serge & Michelline are perfect hosts. The menu is 20€ the food is excellent. Booking is needed, you will not be disappointed.

Given your post in the wine section, I think I'll give this place a miss

I,m not a big wine drinker & my post was just to ask some advice I have tried some wines which just don't work with recipes as they are a bit dry & tasteless, sorry ii,m not an expert but maybe after a couple of years here I might get better. I do know good food & good service though & that's what Diamond Noir gives you!!!

Your taste in wine isn't that bad, Toro Loco has been widely praised by various wine writers. You are unlikely to find a similar wine locally as it is made from Tempranillo which is not native to the region. You should be able to find something similar over the border in Spain where Tempranillo is widely grown.
I hope Santiago's post was intended to be humorous rather than as rude as it came across.

That is the purpose of the Allan.
Sorry Geoff, if you felt I was being rude. I realise your wine thread was about cooking wine.
There are loads of opportunities to discover more about wine in the region. For example Latour-de-France had a "caves ouvertes" on Sunday with around 20 interesting independent producers exhibiting. I didn't go because I was knackered from doing a producers' market in the centre of Perpignan all day Saturday, again alongside another 20 or so good wine producers.
My advice to all is to seek out the quality-focused independents. There are a growing number of us but you will find very little of interest in the supermarkets. Try the cavistes (wine merchants) http://www.cavistes-catalans.com/fr/index.html or even visit the wineries themselves.

Pleased to hear that Geo. Here's an article I wrote for AD a few years ago that attempts to explain the French wine labeling system. Note that Vin de Pays is now called IGP (Indication Géographique Protegée).
