It's not all doom and gloom

Something to say that doesn't fit anywhere else? Voilà!

It's not all doom and gloom

Post by Gus Morris »

The news from the UK is hardly designed to cheer and reassure any British citizens living down here.

But let's be positive. I have it on good authority that sun fish are visible on the surface of the Banyuls-Cerbere marine reserve. Poldark is back on TV so there will be a few happy fans among us. On top of which summer is here and the pool beckons.

I wonder, in more rational moments, why I still follow the UK news at all, except for the exchange rate. And Poldark of course. But why look even at them? It won't change anything: bodices will still get ripped, and I will still be a bit worse off.

To suggest not even getting enthusiastic about Poldark is borderline heretical for SWMBO and her mates. Versailles is, by comparison, downright soft porn! As a footnote it's interesting that Versailles was made by Canal+. But written by and starring anglophones. I understand the French version is dubbed. Which is somewhat ironic.

Haha. Agree 'Gus'.
Always look on the bright side of life...otherwise what's the point of anything....and living here there is always a bright side. Even if we have challenging time to deal with, we can always look at those mountains and get a lift.

Not really ironic in a strict, or even loose, sense, but certainly a bit weird. At least if you're not used to everything being dubbed. But French people are used to that: it probably makes it seem more glamorous.

Yes of course. I came here so that I wouldn't need Poldark to cheer me up. Shame that I don't have a pan big enough to cook a sunfish.
