Perpignan Airport <> Collioure Sept 2018

My wife and I are staying at the Hotel Madeloc in Collioure for a week from 22nd to 29th September 2018, and have to get from and to Perpignan Airport - our Ryanair flight from Birmingham arrives at 15:55 on September 22nd and departs at 16:20 on September 29th.

What we're doing - which is what we did last time - is to take a taxi from Perpignan airport to the railway station and then at the other end to walk from Collioure station to our hotel, and then vice - we are booked on the train as follows:

Departure: Saturday 22 September 2018 - 18:45 Perpignan > 19:05 Collioure

Return: Saturday 29 September 2018 - 12:53 Collioure > 13:14 Perpignan

Anyway, what we wondered was if anybody wanted to share a taxi from Perpignan airport to the railway station and back? ....... or if the plane is delayed like last time, all the way from Perpignan to Collioure if necessary - French trains are cheap but taxis are expensive!

Many thanks,

Philip Cooper

If you get no takers for a taxi share, an easy alternative for 1.30 euro each is the number 7 bus from Perpignan airport into the city. Usually we alight at Place de Catalogne and walk along Ave General de Gaulle to the Station. It takes 10 minutes.

I heard earlier this week that the bus now stops at the Station, but can't confirm that.

I think it’s now ligne 6 and it now goes direct to Gare TGV - can anyone confirm?

If I am reading the new timetable correctly on Saturday 22 September, there is a bus at 16.20 arriving at 16.51 but that seems to be cutting it very fine. The next bus is at 17.43 arriving at 18.14.

On Saturday 29 September, there is a bus at 13.51 arriving at 14.21. A later bus leaves the station at 15.09 arriving at 15.39 which is a bit too late for 16.20 flight.

If you decide to use the bus please let us know how it works out. We are arriving on 25 September and leaving on 6 October and plan to use the bus.

Thanks everybody!

I'm not sure how keen we are taking the bus between Perpignan airport & railway station because of getting our luggage on and off a bus?

How much luggage do you need for a week in what will hopefully still be very mild weather? My apologies if you have special issues with heavy luggage. Drivers on airport buses are used to passengers struggling a bit, and won’t go off without you.

Two more random comments. The Gare TGV that Alan refers to is just the other side of the station to the trains for Collioure etc: you just go through the passage under the tracks.

Second, there is absolutely no need to book the local trains from Perpignan etc, though if you’ve done so it does no harm. If you miss your train, your ticket will no doubt be good for the next one, not that anyone ever checks.

Thank you, Martyn.

However, I think at 70+ we need the taxi from the airport to the station more than the bus lol.

Also, the train we are hopefully due to catch from Perpignan to Collioure is the last train for some time so we would prefer to avoid time spent buying tickets - particularly if, as before, our plane happens to be delayed.

Last time, our plane was actually so delayed that we did in fact miss the train completely, and had to take a taxi all the way from the airport to Collioure. However, thanks to contact made via this forum, we were able to share the taxi with another delightful couple travelling on the same flight - not only halving the cost but making new friends in the process too.

Just to confirm for other travellers, the No 6 has replaced the No 7 for the airport. You can pick it up just outside the TGV side of the station. Timetable is on the Sankeo site. Fare is still 1.6 euro.

I thought that 70 was the new 50: I do hope so, because it’s looming up for me. But I entirely sympathise with the choice of a taxi from the airport to Perpignan station: international air travel is wearing enough nowadays that anything which cuts out some faff at tolerable expense is well worth it.

As for the trip from Perpignan to Collioure, I wouldn’t dream of missing it just because I was stuck in a ticket queue. You can always make your peace with the conductor. I live one stop further in Port-Vendres, where I have no choice but to buy a ticket on the train (if going from there to Perpignan) because the station has been unmanned for the last few years (actually unwommaned: she was very pleasant and helpful, but must have got terribly bored from October through May).I have never yet managed to find the conductor to buy it before it was time to get off.
