:Does anyone know of a person who could mend my grandfather clock? I rather stupidly tried to dust the face and knocked off a little horseshoe bit in the centre which appeared to work the hands.
The clock has not gone since,
any help would be appreciated

Perhaps you could pm me too!
I'd be interested to know of anyone who could mend my grandmother clock.
It would be lovely to have it working.
It was inherited from Mr. Polremy's parents 30 years ago and nobody remembers it ever ticking.

Nostalgia!!
That brings back memories of a song my Gran used to sing when
I was "knee-high to a grasshopper"!!

Grand-Father's Clock

My grand-father's clock was too large for the shelf,
So it stood ninety years on the floor;
It was taller by half than the old man himself,
Though it weighed not a penny weight more.
It was bought on the morn of the day that he was born,
And was always his treasure and pride;
But it stopp'd short never to go again
When the old man died.

Ninety years, without slumbering (tick, tick, tick, tick)
His life seconds numbering (tick, tick, tick, tick)
It stopp'd short never to go again
When the old man died.

In watching its pendulum swing to and fro,
Many hours had he spent while a boy;
And in childhood and manhood the clock seemed to know
And to share both his grief and his joy.
For it struck twenty-four when he entered at the door,
With a blooming and beautiful bride;
But it stopp'd short never to go again
When the old man died.

Ninety years, without slumbering (tick, tick, tick, tick)
His life seconds numbering (tick, tick, tick, tick)
It stopp'd short never to go again
When the old man died.

My grandfather said that of those he could hire,
Not a servant so faithful he found;
For it wasted no time, and had but one desire --
At the close of each week to be wound.
And it kept in its place -- not a frown upon its face,
And its hands never hung by its side;
But it stopp'd short never to go again
When the old man died.

Ninety years, without slumbering (tick, tick, tick, tick)
His life seconds numbering (tick, tick, tick, tick)
It stopp'd short never to go again
When the old man died.

It rang an alarm in the dead of the night --
An alarm that for years had been dumb;
And we knew that his spirit was pluming for flight --
That his hour of departure had come.
Still the clock kept the time, with a soft and muffled chime,
As we silently stood by his side;
But it stopp'd short never to go again
When the old man died.

Ninety years, without slumbering (tick, tick, tick, tick)
His life seconds numbering (tick, tick, tick, tick)
It stopp'd short never to go again
When the old man died.

Michael - why all the pm-ing?
I don't know who has decided that no names of tradespeople etc should be mentioned on the forum. I certainly don't have any problem with it. What is the point of having something or somebody to recommend if it's all done privately?? :roll:

PM ?

Sorry guys but what is PM?
My first thought is Post Mortum but I'm sure it's not that.
I have only just tried the "forum" thing maybe I'll leave it alone if I'm doing it wrong

No, you're not doing anything wrong, Jenny!

A pm is a personal message.

Michael has sent you some info by personal message, that's all. Go to your inbox and you will see it there.

Keep at it - I've only been on here a couple of months myself but you soon get the hang of it. :D

Hey Mountain Mama! (Whatever happened to John Denver?)
PMs are simply private messages for if you wish to communicate just with one person. It means that noone else can know what you've written and you can talk about everybody on the forum behind their backs! :roll: :roll: :lol:
If you want to PM someone, just click on PM under their message.
If you have received any PMs, they will showin your inbox at the top where it will say 'You have xx new message'
It's great to have you on the forum - you're not doing anything wrong at all - nobody is. Michael knows loads of useful stuff and has good contacts. I'm just giving him a 'thwack' to share them around!! :lol: :lol:

Michael - love the 'My Balearic Beauty' Wow! I now imagine PolRemy slim and gorgeous, dark and shapely, with piercing eyes and a spanish twang!

Kate,
I gave one recommendation, One Address in Mas Guérido and a list of Horologists within the PO.
as it was a specific enquiry dealing with a specific item, not something that would be common interest like Tiles or Kitchen Equipment.

Here they all are :

Roigt at 3 rue beau de Rochas, Mas Guérido, he does watch repairs, parts, movements etc. and special batteries.

Paul Largeron in Prades, people come from miles around for him.
He is at 175 General de Gaulle, Prades. he deals in most types including grandfather type.
04 6896 41 85
you have other Horlogeries in:

Cabestany 04 68 50 36 84
Perps 04 68 67 57 72
PV 04 68 82 49 47
Riversaltes 04 68 28 34 40
St André 04 68 95 51 08

Back to the subject, we'd highly recommend Paul Largeron in Prades.
He made an excellent, meticulous job of our old long-case, and got it chiming again after many years.
A lovely guy who says that a great deal of his work comes from expats who move from the UK to France only to find that their long-case clocks don't survive the journey!
