Moving Piano

Post by Sharon »

Hello

I need to move a small but very heavy upright piano from the first floor of a maison de village to a first floor apartment 3 kms away in the St Jean area.

I've tried the big companies in Perpignan but they either say the Vallespir is too far (!) or they won't come out for just a piano.

Man with a Van in the directory said I'd made a mistake....

Does anyone know someone who can do this?

Sadly I am also old enough to remember that advert.. and laurel and Hardy at Saturday morning pictures

I also remember someone in Bacares( or thereabouts ) causing mischief on this very forum wanting a Piano moved off her terrace on the 3rd/4th floor of an apt.

on a different note, a few years ago I would have offered my services (along with hubby and a few muscle men) but my back is showing my age and hubbys front showing his  and muscle men demanaged and lost contact.

Come on Dave put your back into it, son!

Sharon, I can imaging that you are getting frustrated by all the funny comments but one of the major lessons of life is that you move a piano ONCE.

If it's really valuable, sell it.

It it has sentimental value, get over it

If you really like playing piano, buy another, lighter one

If you can't play it very well. Sell it to the new occupants.

We were lucky with our piano. We bought it second-hand, and moved it in, just inside the front door in the hall. The children learnt on it, and practised, or not, variously. Then we sold it after a good few years, and it went straight out of the front door again. I must say though, it still took some muscle-men to shift it and I remember a system of rollers being used down the front path. No wonder electronic keyboards have caught on!

Yes, great thanks for the useful advice everyone! :)
Rollers would be quite effective as it's on the first floor, so would be quick at least....
