We have an interest in Fungi, particularly photgraphy of different species.
In the UK we knew exactly where to go. Different story over here. Have checked out a few walks around the Ceret area but need more information.
Really need forest trails. We do have a car, so could go anywhere really.
We are looking for any kind of fungi. It does not have to be the eating kind.

Try the Haut Vallespir, dime. Forge del Mitg, Prats and St Laurent area is renowned for actual mushrooms so I imagine you would find fungi up there too.

Be warned, however, that it is very dry and mushrooms are few and far between!!!!

Best thing for forest trails is to buy an IGN map 1:25000 - all of the forest trails and routes are marked on that.

i managed to pick around a kilo of (very tasty) Field Mushrooms last friday......mind you this was in the Aude and up at 700 metres +. I did notice some ' very large 'Parasol' Mushrooms in the fields below ' le Pic de Bugarach' (le Linas) yesterday as i drove down to St Paul de Fenouillet.... what we need is some rain and i am sure they will all sprout.....my understanding is that the drier the summmer the better the mushrooms, just so long as it rains enough!!!

I have met a few Fungi's in the area..

I have seen a few Mushrooms etc, not too happy about eating them. Can you still take them to a Pharmacie? they used to tell you if you can eat them or not.

My rule of thumb is 'only ever eat a wild mushroom that you are 100% sure about'. NEVER TAKE A CHANCE! IT MIGHT KILL YOU!!!
