Post by Graeme robb »

Hi

Does anyone know where I might obtain sailing lessons in the Perpignan area?

Cheers

You could try going along to the bar at St. Cyprien Yacht Club on a Saturday morning for a drink and asking there: http://ycsc66.eklablog.com/
When I was a member some years back they ran a school for beginners.

Or just to find someone looking for a crew: that’s how I learnt. Whichever way you do it, it might be worth swotting up the conventional words of command and warning in French (so you don’t get your head knocked off by the boom while you get your waterproof dictionary out). And also the names of the kit: I’m sure there is something like “Dinghy Sailing for Dummiesâ€￾ in French.

The above link might help

Yes. At least they hold themselves out as doing tuition. They don’t seem to do dinghies, strictly so-called, for adults (no adult of normal size would want to sail for long in an Optimist), but it might well be a good idea to start in a catamaran: they are certainly a lot of fun (especially if you get as far as the trapeze).
