Impôts

Post by sue and paul »

Now that we've arrived at that 'taxing' time of year again, does anyone know what exchange rate to apply to earnings/pensions from abroad, for filling the form in in Euros? I wonder if it is November as in previous years.

Well,I'm going for that,Sue,as that's when the £ reached its nadir v the Euro.

There's got to be SOME advantage to us for the puny pound!

Switch UK to the euro at parity and nobody'll notice!!
They just change the sign on the price tickets from £ to €

Thanks for those encouraging replies boys. I've got a real aversion to filling in forms, so the simpler the better...don't you always feel that they never ask the right questions, and you want to reply "yeah but...no but...yeah...." ?

Spiffing idea Rog.

Why not send it to Messrs Brown and Darling,c/o 10/11 Downing St ,London SW1 ?

You may get a Knighthood. They might even pay your expenses.

From OANDA FXHistory:

£ ~ €

1/1/08 ~ 12/31/08

Average = 1.25968

High = 1.36590

Low = 1.01950

This was interbank rate.

I use the Oanda converters for my impots and they're always happy.

Using scrip??

Seriously, I'm getting off this thread as it's not helping Sue & Paul and I don't know the answer to the question. Fortunately my Swiss pension is converted from CHF to euros by the office in Geneva (at a slightly advantageous rate!) before being transferred to our Crédit Mutuel account - so I just declare the euro amounts. Suppose that isn't an option for DSS? Just in case, they (the Swiss) state the original amount of CHF in each transmission - so I can work out the exchange rate for each month - if it were necessary - and that allows me to keep tabs on it too.

Yes,but there is a serious point here,Rog. Perhaps BD can supply the same Oanda figures for the CHF-EUR rates over that period.

But I'll bet that there will not be the same wild fluctuation (+- 35%) as there was between GBP/EUR.

Your calculating people in Geneva won't have the same sort of problem as Sue,myself and thousands of other Brits who now live and pay taxes in Euroland.

I think we'll declare what we actually received in euros into our French account - both Capita and DSS transfer pensions directly in euros. Just do a simple add-up from our bank statements.

euros to Swiss francs are below:

Average (366 days): 1.58742
High: 1.66030
Low: 1.42970

S&P
If you add all of your transactions, you must be correct. But, the Impot people might even like the yearly transactions. You have the amounts I gave to you~check with your method and then use the best (to your benefit) which works for you.

Can this French tax form be downloaded?

Yes, all tax forms can be downloaded here: http://www.impots.gouv.fr/portal/dgi/pu ... .1_A&_DAV=
However you will have to wait until April for the form for this year's income.

Better still you can fill it in and submit it on line.

I thought that your first submission :wink: had to be on paper, then after that you can do it on line.

You could be right. My first sumbissions were certainly on paper but then there was no on-line facility then. I just went along to the Centre des Impots in Perpignan and a nice lady who spoke english helped me fill my first one in. When I mentioned certain small sources of income she even said, "Oh, don't bother to put that down."
