Hello

Does any one know if my English chimney sweep qualification is valid in France to be able to issue clients the proper certification for home insurance.

Regards

Bryan

I suspect that you’d have to look at the wording on their insurance policy. But as a hunch, and entirely on experience of French life generally, I would doubt it. The only obligations between you and the state, so far as I can find, are to keep it swept: it doesn’t say who can do it. But I suspect that individual insurers may be more specific. Most French people ignore the obligation, except maybe once every ten years. But obviously that doesn’t help your business. There’s an outfit called Qualibat which certifies various building trades: if the sun were shining on you, they might even recognise your UK qualification.

I would go to the chambre de commerce and ask. When I came here, my nursing degree was accepted but at that time a teaching one wasn't. Yet they have about the same status.
