We are having problems with a lock on patio doors in our appRtment near Perpignan. We have used a local man who claims to be a locksmith but has visited three times now made a repaire but within a few days were back yo square one.
Can anyone recommend a good locksmith in the Perpignan area.

If it's not too far, there is Sécuriclé, Avenue des Flamants Roses, Argeles (the zone leading to the Intermarché Hyper). Franco/Irish, so English spoken. Rapid service when we needed a key for an old Landrover

Before you spend your money on yet another callout check the type of lock you have. If it is an internal or external key operated lock then contact your existing locksmith, assuming he was genuine and gave you a receipt, and ask him to reset it correctly.
On the other hand if it is the simple sliding latch type with no external method of locking the door only from the inside it may be that the heat of the sun has expanded the latch mechanism. This could also be the fault, but is rare, with a French externally locked patio door as well.
Trick is to shade your door from the sun with a white sheet and allow the door to cool down. If you have an external roller blind you could use that instead. Now try the lock. If it operates then a patient locksmith has some very fine tuning to do to get it to work both when hot and cold using the fiddly adjustment screws beloved of the French.
The UK patio door locks are made of a limited expansion material like Tufnol to avoid this happening but they will not fit French doors.

Thanks for that. Unfortunately tHe door will not lock cold or hot. The lock part seems very slack.

We've used Sécuriclé as well, an Irish locksmith with a French wife - excellent service.
