House to rent for approx 6 months from April 2015

Hi,

We are retirees looking for a furnished house to rent with a minimum of 2 bedrooms and an enclosed garden, for about six months from late April to the end of October 2015. Wi-Fi required but we are happy to install it if necessary. The area we're hoping for is between St Cyprien and Port-Vendres, and inland as far as Le Boulou. We have two very well-behaved labradors who are used to this area, and we're quite well-behaved ourselves.

The intention is to buy a property here once our house in the UK is sold, but we would like to rent initially to see if being here full-time works out well. Our budget is around €700 per month.

Thank you, and hoping to hear from anyone who might be able to help.

There are some long term rental websites like this:

http://www.rentaplaceinfrance.com/langu ... ntales-66/

In which people advertise their houses (beware read the pricing as some are short term lets, not sure why they get muddled up).

April-october however is peak season and whilst you may find something, €700 for a peak season 6 month rental (I.e. Not taking the winter too) with a garden is probably going to be very hard to find. A lot of places charge that or more for a week.

The other option may be heading up the valley a bit I.e. Beyond ceret or beyond ille sur tet, you may have more luck there?

Sorry I can't directly help but hopefully the site above is a good starting point.

Thank You CPB,

That was useful.. I've used your link to Rent a Place in France and have sent off an enquiry for one place that looks good, but I haven't heard anything yet. I know the area well and I'm aware of the difficulty we're facing. Just keeping fingers crossed at the moment! I'll be in Collioure from March 24th so I would be on the spot to view any likely properties that might come up. I'd like to add that we would be sure to take great care of a rental property and look after both the house/apartment and garden, just as I do my own house.

Thanks again,

Sue234

There are more sites out there like that one.
One things we did when lookin for a rental (although it may be a bit late for this year but none the less worth a try), was we went through sites like owners direct. Asked if they had bookings or if they would consider a longer rental...

Yes, we did that too. We ended up renting a superb house with pool within walking distance of Ceret centre for 700 euros per month all inc from September to April. Many people would prefer to get a guaranteed rental, and have their house looked after, duriing the out of season months. Bonne chance.

It's relatively easy to find a furnished property for 6 months over winter but over summer is a different game. We were very lucky and found one through this forum by asking, as you did, but anyone advertising their property will be looking for weekly rentals for that period and probably already have taken a few bookings.

So my advice, if nothing turns up soon, would be to either postpone your visit until September or look for something away from the main tourist spots.

Thanks to Kate and to Santiago for your helpful comments and more ideas. I'm very grateful. I hadn't thought of trying the online holiday rental companies but will do so now. Cheers!

We can offer what ever clients wish. Contact us again if interested. Rates adjustable. We need to cover for general costs and upkeep but can try to be reasonable. There is a small private apartment to the rear we keep for our use but plan to be away all winters. We like to spend our time travelling.
