In France, a crackdown on holiday lets in the capital Paris as well as Lyon and Marseille is expected next week. If the new law is a success, the rest of the country could follow suit.

Is this real or is it another of the Mail's typical scare stories like these: http://www.anorak.co.uk/288298/scare-st ... to-z.html/?

The Mail is probably more accurate in it's reporting than the Sunday Sport!

Old news I think. Seem to remember that the French government announced a crackdown on foreigners who don't pay taxes here but own properties and then let them to other non-residents. The money changes hands abroad. French tax avoided.

Not the kind of thing anybody reading this would ever do.

Writing as a former taxman, and considering the number of people I know or know of who have defrauded two fiscs at once for a matter of decades, I can only wonder why it has taken them so long, if indeed they are going to do something effective.

Maybe they'll use the same method as for tracking RSA fraud. The one the CGT don't like!
