Staying over in Barcelona and Carcassonne

Post by Sally »

Hello everyone

Now that we have to find more convoluted routes to the Pyrenees, can anyone recommend anywhere to stay over for 2 nights in Barcelona (on the way out) and Carcassonne for one night (on the way back)? Somewhere reasonably priced and easy for airports and stations would be good. Many thanks.

Hi Sally
We just had a couple of nights in Barcelona and stayed in the Gaudi Hotel right in the centre, off the Ramblas. It cost 99€ per night for 2 including breakfast, and we were told that was really good for Barcelona prices. It's expensive I suppose when it's just a stop over for a flight, but perfectly placed to see Barcelona, and very clean, spacious rooms etc. We booked via bookings.com which is usually cheaper I think than going direct.
It also has a supervised multi storey carpark, where you get special rates if you are staying there. Still not cheap, but not bad for Barcelona!!

That Gaudi sounds a good price for what it is. Another alternative is to stay in Figueres and travel in to Barcelona as required. Hotel Ramblas there costs about €46 for a room.

Vichy Catalan is another option. It's a spa hotel outside Girona and you can walk to the train station.

There are probably more options for staying near a Barcelona suburban train station, perhaps on the airport line. As Kate says, Booking.com is a great resource and the prices are often the cheapest too.
