What situation exactly? There are billions of people who don't live in France, and many millions of them might conceivably want treatment here for one or other of thousands of different ailments. That's quite apart from sordid questions like who is going to cop the bills.

If your relative is resident in UK then they need to ask permission from Newcastle to be treated in another country and covered by the UK. Pretty sure there is a link on their government website as my daughter was looking into this also. They cannot just turn up here and ask to be treated. If they are on holiday the European card only covers for emergencies so they will not beable to plan a operation for example . Your relative would also be best to check how much they would have to pay as the UK will only cover the same part as the carte vitale .
The hardest part is getting the UK to agree to it . Good luck and hope it works out for them

Amplifying a bit on Tia's point about the Carte Vitale, depending on the medical condition, you can be left with quite a big bill if you go into hospital.

Serious conditions are reimbursed at 100% but less serious ones at 80%. Very difficult to find a definition of these terms. Obviously cancer would be serious and a broken arm would not be. So it would be wise to get this clear by talking to the specialist at the start of treatment.

In addition, there is a 'hotel' charge for everybody of almost 20 euros a day while you are in hospital.

As Martyn pointed out, we need more details to help more 😀

Also depending on the op there may be extra fees that are not reimboursable. Be very careful when choosing your doctor and surgeon. Even the anesthesist can charge extra if they want.

Especially the anaesthetist: they are the only ones who can kill you without even really trying, and get away with it.
