Is there a web site that details medical practitioners of various specialities in an area? Ideally with patient reviews.

My French doctor has given me a chit for a specialist but it seems that I have to go and find one myself.

I know I can use Pages Jaunes but I would expect there to be something more comprehensive

I usually just ask the Doctor which specialist he recommends.

Then you need to know whether he or she is covered under the French health scheme. Visit www.ameli.fr where you will find most doctors and their tariffs, Watch out in particular for 'honoraires', the amount you will pay many specialists over and above the rate reimbursed by the state. Do not feel embarrassed, particularly if you are to be hospitalised, to ask for a quote for surgeons, anaesthetics, price of private room etc

It doesnt really answer your question tho, although it does list them. In my (fortunately limited) experience, the best way where possible is to ask for recommendation on forum, FB etc. Otherwise it's just pot luck!

It's the official site of CPAM. I now see that I have just repeated an earlier post. But at least I can add that I have tried it, for nothing very demanding, and it works.

"Dépassements d'honoraires" could be a trap if your mutuelle doesn't cover them. But if it does, it's a sort of proxy for a recommendation: the guy is saying "I'm so good I can charge over the odds". Whether that turns out to be true in your case is another matter. But that's equally true for personal recommendations.

Over the past few months I've had occasion to use this site quite a lot. It worked but for me it was a bit 'flaky' . It kept freezing up on me . I think for 2 reasons : my old v slow PC + the time I spent on the site . Still the site proved to be v useful, in fact essential.

The charges were over the odds but unless I went to Toulouse in this area there was only one surgeon doing the type of operation that I needed ; I guess , hence his ability to charge over the odds . Charges mounted up due to follow up appointments and 'acts' . The actual cost to me has been about twice what I expected , but still less the cost of a mutuelle for a year ..
