Church of England Services in the Alberes

Ann and I have recently come to live permanently in Villelongue-dels-Monts. I am not an ordained Anglican priest but a licensed C of E lay service leader.

For 20 years before moving here, I had led Book of Common Prayer Matins and Evensong and Common Worship services (but not Eucharist) in country parishes near Andover.

A few people have asked me to lead services here and I am wondering what the level of interest might be. Venue would initially be a house group.

Please send me a message if you would be interested. Subject to the response, I would then speak to Revd David Phillips at Vernet-les-Bains to reassure him I am not trying to poach any of St George's flock. Dependant on David's feelings, I would then approach the Diocese of Europe to have my licence transferred from the Diocese of Winchester.

Have you had any contact with the Anglican congregations just over the border in the Costa Brava area?

The first Sunday of every month there's a service in Pau - plus various house groups.

More info here: http://www.anglican-cb.org/contact-us/

Given the way they're organised there might be some useful experience to share.

Thanks for this link, Helen - there is almost certainly some useful experience to share with the Costa Brava congregations.
Coming from the Alberes, both Vernet-les-Bains and Pau (to the north-west of Roses) are about 65/70 minutes drive. I recognise that all and any ex-pat activities are necessarily going to be spread over a large area and we cannot expect to find things on our doorstep as we might in UK.
However, my limited conversations do point toward a local need among those for whom distance/travelling time is an issue and I may be able to meet that need.

I'm sure you're right! The only reason I discovered the Costa Brava services was because I was trying to see if there was an option closer than Vernet! My elderly dad was staying with me - a retired Anglican priest! - and it was Easter.

But in the end we didn't go anywhere!

That was some years ago now.
