Innocent mistake= endless ribbing

Struggling to break through the language barrier? Maybe we can help. Heard, seen or said something that made you giggle? We'd love to hear about it.

Innocent mistake= endless ribbing

Post by Rombolo »

In the course of erecting a huge marquee for a wedding event, we laid out protective covers on the ground beforehand. I kept hearing my fellow workers say...vâche this, vâche that....I couldn't help but innocently enquire if the word for tarpaulin was the same as the friendly beast. Of course, it was bâche....and I was the source of much mirth. :cow:

I thought V and B were difficult enough in Spanish!!

I asked a friend for a recommendation for where to buy a good "hache" = axe when he replied I understood "vache". I thought it was strange but I am now known to have an axe that also gives milk ;-)
