Armoire à glaces

Post by martyn94 »

I've just seen a nice one in an otherwise dismal story in L'Independant about an ex-rugbyman sent down for an unprovoked attack with a brass knuckle ("poing américain", another useful expression). Incidentally, remind me to avoid discos in Canet, or at any rate to leave before 0530.

The convicted man is described as an "armoire à glaces" - literally either an icebox or (more relevant here) an imposing Norman-style wardrobe with mirrored doors. Figuratively, "built like a brick shithouse": pardon my French, as they say.
