70 year old walking from the Pyrenees to the Pennines

Post by cufc »

Sorry if this has apperaed on here already, but I haven't seen it.

Just thought some of you might be interested.

"Five days to go. The Big Walk starts at 0800 on Saturday and finishes
2,000 kms and 70 days later in Blackpool.

We have the vehicle, now decorated overall by Columbia specially for the trip. I have put pictures of it on my blog today. It is magnificent. I am fit and uninjured and hope to stay that way.

After the first day's walk to Mirepoix, it will be a voyage of discovery. Except for two days at Brantome, every overnight stop in France, and many of those in England, will be somewhere we have never been before. Full details of the route were placed on my blog a couple of days ago.

The publicity has really stepped up. Journalists and photographers ringing for appointments.

And most gratifying of all, donations to Pancreatic Cancer via my blog or JustGiiving page have really picked up pace.

As the walk was in aid of Pancreas Cancer Research, I've added this from another thread I opened
Quote
French Inserm researchers have made a new important discovery.
Vital to identify and treat 11 - including endocrine cancers, such as that of the
pancreas, liver and spleen as well as lungs and stomach.
(So far, haven't found any source in English mentioning this fact)
Here is the TF1 report from 22October (after the publicity!)

Vic's Big Walk - The Book

Post by Vic »

As mrob mentioned above, all the proceeds from the book go direct to pancreatic cancer research.

The first cheque has gone to Pancreatic Cancer UK from my publishers - the first of many, I hope.

And as Pancreatic Cancer said to me this morning,

"Fantastic that the book is starting to bring in funds – you must be really pleased. And as we all know its not just about funds but about raising awareness of Pancreatic cancer and your book sales will be doing just that."

Apparently there are millions of Kindles being sold for Christmas, which means there will be millions of people receiving them.

For about 5 Euros, this could be the first book you read on your Christmas Kindle. And you would be making a donation to a vital cause while you read.

What are you waiting for?

It is also available from Amazon in any country, including France, where they sell Kindles.

And for Apple at iBookstore, and at Barnes&Noble for the Nook.
