Red Wine Stains

Post by collioure_bee »

Got red wine poured all down my back last night by accident, only just seen it this morning.

The top is 100% polyester and is white except for two stipes of red and blue down one side, it's a Filja track suit so I want to save it if possible.

Anyone got any uncomplicated tips that will work? Or should I just take it straight to a dry cleaners?

This any help, Bee?

Red Wine
Fabrics/Carpet
Sponge immediately with White Wine to remove the red stain.

If stain has dried soften with glycerine (1 part to 2 parts water) before washing.

Rinse in warm water, sponge with borax solution (1 tablespoons to 1 pint water) if necessary. Wash in the usual manner.

If you rub salt into the stain immediately after the spillage has occurred this will counteract the stain. Leave for a minute or two then rinse with warm water.

Baby wipes can be used to remove stain.

Shaving foam also gets red wine out of clothing and carpets/upholstery.

Soak it in Vanish for white items. Then wash normally.

Thank you both. Vanish sounds easiest way so off to Carrefour tomorrow sigh!

Just worried I might muck up and make the stain permanent.

I've never had a problem with Vanish - I swear by the stuff! It gets red wine stains out of my clothes.
