Suddenly it's heaving

One advantage (or disadvantage) of being both retired and an atheist is that I no longer keep much track of Ascension and its "pont". So I was quite surprised by the sudden influx of people over the last couple of days. I was a bit miffed that the baguettes had sold out, but otherwise it's entirely welcome.

It must happen every year, but I can't remember being half so struck by it. Is that just me, or is it a "thing"? And if it is, what does it mean? People are sufficiently confident (post Macron?) that they are going on holiday more? Or they're even more brassed off, and so are going abroad less? Or maybe that it's just fairly late this year.

We've noticed a big rise in traffic over the last ten days, particularly in and out of Perpignan, but round and about in general. Like you, I've never noticed it at this time of year....but maybe I've never looked. :-)
