I imagine that it will be helpful to have someone else in the firing line when Brexit turns out not to be the best of all possible worlds. But also because he's maybe not a complete idiot when clowning doesn't seem the right approach. And perhaps most of all because it no longer matters whether our Foreign Secretary is an imbecile or not.
