In an otherwise excellent piece in today's newsletter, it says that Barcelona was the last major city to fall to Franco. Surely it was Madrid?

Barcelona fell to Franco on 26th January 1939.
Girona fell to Franco on 2nd February.
The Nationalists occupied Madrid on 28th March.
The last Republican forces surrendered and the civil war declared to be at an end on 1st April.
Interestingly, both Britain & France recognised the Franco regime on 27th February a full month before Madrid fell.

On 30 March 1939, two days after Madrid fell, Valencia surrendered and the Nationalist troops entered the city.
