Community : communication and cars ? Some questions ?

Post by Tyeuma »

:D Let me introduce myself : I’m a french student, working in Paris. Today, I’m working over the comportment of human being in mobility. More precisely, I have some questions for you about feelings in a car. Can I ask you less than 10” to answer. (I may be one of the man who will built your future car :D )

I’ll come to answer your question if you have some.

I hope you will share this link on social networks, to your friends and to relatives.

There are links for the survey :

In english : https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1M-eO7W ... w/viewform
In french : https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1Uy-DLl ... w/viewform
In spanish : https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1i-uoIp ... Q/viewform
And in finnish : https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1STUX2L ... o/viewform

Sorry. These questions were to do with subjective feelings or emotions not comportment. I gave up half way through.

Yes we are asking for subjective feelings in order to understand comportments ; why poeple are agressive ? dangerous ? Which feelings we must concentrate on ?

Because feelings and comportment are linked, it is more a qualitative survey than a quantitative.

But it's not a problem if it's causing you inconvenience. I'm sorry about it.
You can tell me more about why you disliked it ?

Hi Tryema

I so these sort of surveys and teach others hos to do them, so perhaps I was being a bit picky. The survey is overwhemingly about emotions generated with a small amount about consequential actions (or desire for action). Fair enough but I thought I was doing a survey about something else. That is all.

If you want a slighltly more detailed critique then:

How often do you drive ? - THIS should be banded surely?

Where do you usualy drive? *

in the countryside
in a small town
in a city
in a metropolis

this caused me problems as the answer is contryside, motorway then city

Good luck anyway !

I totaly understand you :)

We can't delet hte frequency of driving, as we must know who is a regular driver and who is not, in order to select our main target.

I also understand the confusion about the next question, I'm sorry for it. ;)
How can I modify the question to be better understood ?

Firstly Tyeumay I apologise for spelling your name incorrectly.

Regarding the first question I would recommend bands based on hours per week or mile/kilomeres per week. For your sort of survey I think that hours matters more than distance.

Regarding the second question I could see the questions broken down

Local Driving (rural, town city)
Commuting ( rural, main roads, motorway)
Leisure >8 times a year (rural, city, motorway)

AND add a rider to your emotion questions as to whether they occurred in rural, town/city or motorway situations.

My guess is that most frustrations are n cities. Motorways the least.

I repeat.

Good luck with it all.

Owens88 : I don't blame you for the mistake, even if you did it again :D

Your advice is really relevant but I will not change the survey. Let me explain why :

I want people to express themselves by interpreting the propositions. Something I dislike in poll -in general- is that questions lead the answer in a direction.

To be very precise, I'd better had two question "which type of path ?" and "where ?" because the answer "Commuting ( rural, main roads, motorway) " is not enought to identify a driver.

We decided to ask "Where" in order to be able to make a "map of drivers" : **this driver meet this one, and this one because they all drive in a city.**

I hope my engish is not too bad :?

I did the survey. It was short and also quite interesting.

I think car designers should be thinking about these things. The problems with cars today are aggressive or bullying driving, careless driving (possibly caused by tiredness or confusion over directions) and people driving too fast in areas where children might play.

It was interesting to think about ways we could improve communication between motorists and whether this would reduce the number of accididents or incidents which cause stress.

This morning my son and I were talking about driving. One conclusion was that:

'Driving is a team game but you do not know the other team members'

Let me tell you that this sentence is really excellent :)

@santiago : you will be happy because I'm studying design :D I hope I can find some solutions.

Don't you think that we can reduce stress (and bad feelings) by giving drivers the possibility to "talk" (even if they talk without words ?)
