Apologies in advance to the professional wine makers out there.

Clever!
How to open a tin without a tin-opener.: Rub the edge of the top of the tin against a cement wall or pavement. Keep rubbing. It'll eventually start to open.
OR: bang the top of the tin several times on the pavement or cement floor.
I know there's a way to open a locked car door with a mobile phone but can't remember how it's done. (No, you don't bang the phone against the door!)

I am so bored with this video but especially with people telling me what a brilliant piece of marketing genius it is.

The video is not bad but it's been done by 30 other people before. It got huge exposure because the guy works with Waitrose and has very good links with the old-school media world. Daily Mail, BBC etc. and those companies paid and used their networks to force it to "go viral".

What I find personally annoying is that he is portrayed as a winemaker when, in his own words:

"There are three Vs in wine, says Cronk: viticulture, vinification and vente: “We just do the third and we’re quite busy enough. We have 370ha to choose from, and buying in wine means we have flexibility and scaleability. We have the lifestyle without the risks."

I'm just dreading the wave of people who come to visit me over the next 12 months asking if I have seen, or in fact am the guy who made, that video.

At least he doesn't make out that he is a real winemaker, but the media do.

Those of you who have studied, put in the hours and taken the risks to achieve something in your trade, profession, art or craft will understand how annoying it is for people who just choose the media route to be held in greater esteem. But that is part of the world we have created, from Big Brother to Celebrity perfumes.

Here's more honest info. Read this and compare with what Corin and I do.

I hear you, Santiago. I had a similar approach to marketing. But eventually my company went bust while, what I considered to be, less good competitors survived and flourished.

You are an excellent writer - sharp, funny, interesting. At the very least you could add a Facebook page. There are lots of guerilla marketing techniques out there that cost nothing and could appeal to an inventive mind like yours.

I do my best but when you have vineyards to manage and wines to make you don't have much time to make videos and set up all the media links to get them publicised. But hey, we all make our own choices. I think ours is more for the long-term.

Also, as you probably know, there are different markets and different ways to gain reputation in each of them.
