Kate, until recently I was admin for a phpbb forum here in the Ariège (a PO equivalent!). I passed it on because of lack of time but just shout if you need any more ideas or thoughts. We used version 3, which is more robust spam-wise than the version 2 to AD uses, but we still had issues from time to time with spammers (never kitchens though!).

Thanks Ariègeoise. Much appreciated, and yes......I have considered updating to version 3 but believe that it's an enormous hassle and with my lack of skills, I could end up deleting the whole forum . so thought I might wait a bit!!

Know what you mean, Kate. I was terrified when I had to update to the latest version of 3 and pressing the start button was worse than a trip to the dentist .
