Can anybody please tell me if mosquitoes get very bad around the Prades area?

I noticed an old thread about mosquitoes from a couple of years ago, and it has got me wondering. We are due to be there from this summer onward.

YES !
But.........there are ways of preventing mosquitoes from approaching you:
a) Eat a lot of garlic (mind you, that'll prevent anyone approaching you)
b) Wear light-coloured clothes
c) Buy a couple of those blue lamps. They're not 100% efficient, but when they do work the sound of mozzies being electrocuted to death (think Texas) is very gratifying.

Cover yourself in Avon Skin So Soft dry body oil. I was a mossie dining table but the oil works wonders.

I second Skin So Soft. Brilliant insect repellent.

The other thing to do is make sure you have no stagnant water around your property. That's where the mossies lay their eggs. They are starting to hatch now.

Mosquitoes?

Thanks for the responses. I'm not so much worried about how to deal with them -- I'm an Australian! -- & I don't want to kill them, just to avoid my family being bitten. I'm basing my assumptions on coming from a hot climate myself, but living currently in the UK, I've got used to no mozzies...

Are the mosquitoes in Prades mostly around on summer nights, and near the river?

Do people tend to have flyscreens on the windows/doors as we do in Australia?

I would think there are mozzies in Prades, I put a plug in my bedroom, I keep my windows closed from dusk as thats when they come out, and if water is near by you, your chances of them are higher, they like high scented perfumes so if you go out in the evening, leave it off, I spray my ankles and wrists with Mozzie repellant when we go out in the evening. If you have the screens that go on your windows, then that would be good in an evening if its warm and want your windows open.

Also I only use Skin so Soft.

if you cant get the Avon cream you should try another method which involves drinking a couple of cans of Guinness each week. after a while the mozzies dont bite. This is not a joke and im not a Guinness salesman but its certainly a more pleasant and Macho way of using mozzie repellent
