Switching off Macafee

Post by collioure_bee »

How do I do this?

I am trying to download a file from what I know to be a safe source and it won't let me. I just keep getting a thing saying "we have searched this and it may contain spyware so click to download anyway or block"

I click to download anyway but it just keeps blocking then taking me away from the download. I am just going to switch it off, how dare it decide for me what I can and can't download, I know this file to be safe!

On my PC,Bee there is a Mc Afee "M" shield in the bottom right hand corner of the screen.

If you click on this ,then a screen pops up,and gives you all sorts of options...one of them is to "disable".

Of course it may be different on yours........

I gave up on Macafee years ago. It is too intrusive and expensive. I find AVG Free works well and it is free. Of course you still have to surf sensibly!

We are with AVG.

McAfee was a freebie on the computer when we bought it but when the licence ran out I deleted it and installed AVG.

McAfee is now a part of Intel. In fact, Intel thinks they might build McAfee into the processors, which gives some advantages.

Dell used to provide 15 months of Nortons but they've changed over to McAfee now.

The information about the Intel information was in one of the UK computer magazines.

Also, CB, if you're running the two anti-virus programs at the same time, it just causes problems.

This will help,it worked for me a couple of months back CB :) :

http://www.pchell.com/virus/uninstallmcafee.shtml
Explains how to uninstall the program....

Then scroll down to the removal tool link then download the removal tool, the link is displayed on the site lower down on the page, save it to desktop.

Then run it after you've uninstalled the program.
Here's the link if you can't find it:

http://download.mcafee.com/products/lic ... s/MCPR.exe

This tool will remove ALL traces of the program from the PC
Let me know how you get on.
Cheers Rob
