Internet broadband installation

Post by TrevorG »

I have purchased a complete internet broadband satellite kit from uk including kingpost dish, modem, cable, instructions in English plus a DVD. Can anyone recommend a reliable person or company to carry out the installation for me; I live in Prats de Mollo La Preste and as I approach 80 years old I do not feel confident in doing this myself. Any help would be most welcome. Trevor Gardener

I presume you have subscribed to a satellite internet service, you don't say which one.

I have a Tooway satellite system which was installed by http://www.digitvsolutions.com/ but you may be a bit far away

Not in the least specialist, at least in the case of the Tooway setup that Allan and I have got. I set mine up myself (no specialist equipment needed) though I can understand why TrevorG doesn't want to. Any satellite installer should have no difficulty. If it's Tooway, their official installers are here
http://www.tooway.fr/les-installateurs- ... en-france/
and I imagine a little research would get you something similar for their competitors.

By way of amplification, it's true that they are intrinsically more demanding than a simple TV satellite dish, both because the kit is quite heavy and unwieldy (particularly if you are working off the ground), but also because you need a much better focus on the target. But the design of the dish and its mount, and the way that the transmitter and modem, and the accompanying software, help you connect it, more than compensate. I found it easier and quicker, overall, than a basic tv satellite dish, because the transmitter tells you, by way of more-or-less intense beeping noises, when you have found the right satellite, and then when you have got a good focus. And the design of the mount makes it easy to make the necessary fine adjustments.

But that leaves the physical aspect. I am sure that TrevorG is right to seek help with that. The main issue is to get the mast as vertical and stout as possible, and the local odd-job man is as good as anyone for that (particularly if his reference to a "king post" implies that it needs a foundation). After that, anyone handy and literate can do it, with TrevorG translating the instructions if need be.

I agree with Martyn94 on this. In the UK, my company has significant dealings with Tooway. They sell loads of systems for DIY installation and the process is not difficult.

I got a professional to install mine as I didn't fancy climbing around on a 3rd floor roof.
