Shockwave Flash

... is driving me bananas ... yes I have checked the internet and have carried out all the ways of correcting it. Has anybody else had this problem? .. If so how did you resolve it? I have tried disabling it totally and chucking it out but it keeps coming back. I have looked at alternatives without any great success. I read the UK and International press everyday and it seems to interfere mostly with that. So any views on this matter would be gratefully received.... It keeps crashing!

It might help if you can tell us what sort of device you're using, what operating system, and which browser. Then someone with the same setup may be able to help.

PS I have no problems with it in Linux but it does need frequent updating.

Depending on what OS you're using and which browser, you can un-install Adobe Flash Player here;

I can only speak for Mac OS, I have no Adobe products and have never needed them.

Many thanks all for your advice, I have finally managed to ditch Shockwave flash - I uninstalled it and disabled the remnants in plug ins or add ons as ms call them. I am on Vista. Back to a Mac as soon as! Linux is new to me, is this a specialist browser? I googled it and it looks very techy, so any information on that would be interesting.

I see you're using Windows Vista, an OS that's been around since 2007, that's perhaps been your problem. I don't think Microsoft support it anymore.
Linux is a Unix-like open source OS, not a browser. (Tux the penguin is their mascot)
Recent versions of Adobe Flash used with up to date operating systems seem to be stable but there's always been a security vulnerability issue.
Peripal, I would either upgrade your version of Windows (if you can) to Windows 7 at least or buy a Mac.

Mainstream support for Vista has ended but security updates should be available until April 2017.
So, Peripal, it's best to do something before then. You could buy a new computer, or buy an upgrade to a later version of Windows, although the latest version may not run on your hardware. Linux is a good alternative for older machines but you do have to know what you're doing to install it and get it running. If you want to try it out you can get a live disk to try it out safely without installing it. In your position I think I would wait a while until the remaining bugs are ironed out of Windows 10 and then buy a new computer.

In the meantime you could try installing the Firefox browser. It's much more reliable than IE.

Thanks for all your advice it has been very helpful. My computer is now coming up for 8 years old. Looking at the web I discovered that it would be possible to upgrade to windows 10 but I have come to the conclusion that I will hobble on with Vista until I buy a new computer. Thanks again, Perpipal.
