Might be a silly question but do tv,s purchased in GB work just the same as one you would purchase in France? Need to upgrade to one with hdmi socket & was going to buy 2nd hand from facebay.

Yes, any TV equipped for digital terrestrial transmissions (DVB-T) will work all over Europe and most of the rest of the world. You'll just have to change the plug.

Use a plug Converter rather than physically change the plug else your Guarantee could be voided.

Many tvs use a standard IEC power socket (like on a kettle) and leads with a French plug on the other end are easily found. But given the price of new tvs, I don't think I'd bother.
