Astra 2 F Signal

Post by montgolfiere »

We appear to be enjoying a new period with the signal 'up a bi't. Although not as high as before at least we have some hope that the signal may increase instead of dropping bit by bit....as it has done for months...... I have all channels at 0615 on a 120 chez moi in Rennes les Bains.

Unfortunately we will not have anything definite until Astra 2E has gone into service (Sept) and we have seen how stable the signal is . If it is similar to 2F it is likely to be a 150 -180 High Quality Dish with Feedhorn LNB.

I have no accurate costings as yet but maybe around 1000 euros !!

There may also need to be 'Groundworks (concrete 'slabs')', and Shelter 'Panels' (from wind') and / or Fences to protect from Child, Dog or Sanglier attack!!!

It is the level of investment required which leads me to want to really KNOW the actual size required, before doing any such installtion......

signal still 'high'.....all channels working this morning...
It looks likely that 2E will now be delayed by at least 2 months...maybe November??

UPDATE 13/07/13 at 09.30 - An update regarding the investigations into the cause of the "Proton" rocket crash of the 2nd of July, 2013 at the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, apparently the "Russian State Commission" inquiry is still ongoing but is expected to be completed by the end of July, following this completion the expectation is that the "ILS" (International Launch Services) own "FROB" (Failure Review Oversight Board) investigation and review will begin in early/mid August, of course all this is relevant regarding the delayed "Astra 2E" satellite launch and in light of this latest information it is looking increasingly likely that it will be a September launch for the "Astra 2E" satellite.
Looks like November if the launch goes OK.

Sue, what size dish do you have? We get everything perfectly bar the C5 assortment on an 80cm dish.
Also, if possible what LNB do you use?

It has gone again now and was totally a one off. The first time we had seen Ch 5 for months and months. For what its worth its a 100cm dish and the LNB is the same (we think) as your friends that you wrote about previously. I would stress again that this was a one off and not a regular occurrence.

Yes, the signal now seems to be varying a lot through the 24 hour period.....
It seems to dissapear around 8pm/9pm. and has been there at 0700 in the morning....

not too sure what is going on, but the various patterns and variations over the past 9 months do not give confidence that any 'large Dish' solution will work in the long term. It has been calculated (by a respected source) that actually at least a 1,8m Dish (maybe even 2,4m) will be required to guarantee 24/7 reception taking into account the real 'Lows' that have occurred since Dec 4th. 2012 with the 2F signal.

And of course the actual output from 2E needs compared to that from 2F.
