It's possible Carol that we will loose reception totally and your humax box will only be good for a door stop.
Nobody knows how it will affect us until it happens, fingers crossed.

more likely that either nothing will change or we will require larger dishes. Not being able to receive any signal is highly unlikely.

What size dish do you think we may need?

unfortunately we wont know anything 'til the changeover happens... i imagine from staying with the present 80cm to maybe 150cm. max.... but that is only a guess.

forecast to start this evening and continue over the weekend..... and of course if nothing changes in the 'reception department' you wont notice anything on a Sky or Freesat receiver. However Generic Boxes may need rescanning.

We have a PMB set-top box linked through to a dedicated Astra dish on the roof of our residence, I'm not sure of the dish size though.
What, if any, would be the symptoms of the change?
1 Loss of some channels?
2 Loss of all channels?
If we need to re-install the PMB set-top box, what is likely to happen?
If we lose U.K. television, how will we know;
a) If a larger dish will fix it? (easy to replace)
b) If we need to change the set-top box?
c) If we need to subscribe to Sky
The parable and PMB box were supplied and installed in Autumn 2008.
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

losss of some or all channels or picture breakup in bad weather / evenings will all be symptoms of reduced signal.
I am reasonably confident that if there are problems a larger Dish will sort the problem....

HOWEVER... this then brings problems of its own regarding the High Winds we suffer in the region. Depending on the Size that may be required will of course dictate where the DISHES can be attached.... For example.....i dont think hanging a 1.5 metre dish off a chimney would be an option around here.

maybe ground mounted or wall mounted dishes will be the safest options... but this is all speculation until we know what we will require.

See my website www.british-tv-in-france.co.uk for all news etc.

The UK FTA Channels eg BBC , ITV etc are NOT available from the wide beam Satellites with a Sky Subscription.

Anybody any idea if a Slinger Box would get around the problem if we lost the TV channels, i know you would need a computer to connect with but it may be worth looking at if the worst happens

Rob got flooded out yesterday and has been 'off air' for 24hrs.+
However he will be back up and running later today early tomorrow... and should have good info.

Hi Montgolfière.
Are we there yet? Are we there yet?
I have a five-year-old 60cm dish here in Taurinya and a Humax PVR.
I've been monitoring the BBC HD channel with what appeared to be test transmissions and test cards throughout the morning, with no reception problems at all.
I still have 100% Strength and 80-90% Quality on all the usual channels (Freesat only).
It remains to ask, is that it? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?

no, the channels havent changed over yet. still only the test channel on 2f.
but good reception of that is the positive sign that we may escape problems.

no changes have taken place as yet with no explanations for the perceived delay. I will post as soon as i have any new info.

Thats strange because we have lost a load (or breaking up) of channels. ITV 4, ITV 4+1, M4, E4 and ITV2. Quality has reduced to about 40% on these channels. Strange!

There are no changes as yet in the Signal strength/quality so if you are having reception/break up problems in this rainy/heavy cloud weather it is most likely the Dish requires re-aligning. It has probably moved slightly with the strong winds we suffered recently.

Conflicting info on the internet at the moment......some say that only some of the channels are going to be transferred and this might take place Tuesday and another says the transfer might not happen til the end of the month......My suspicions are that they may be actually having 'Issues'?!!

Hi guys. We're watching this topic with keen interest. No obvious change to Sky here in the UK. Please post any changes where you are.
Thanks
Steve
