Help! Orange VOIP user can't call us.

Just wondered if anyone else has had this problem and can maybe help us.

After 5 months of waiting for Orange to activate our internet account, we gave up, canceled the contract and went with UKTelecom who had us up and running in a couple of weeks. We now have phone and internet through a neufbox with them. All is well but friends who have Orange Livebox for both phone and internet cannot ring us. They get straight through to a French speaking answering service and we have no idea that they've tried to contact us. It has already caused some misunderstandings as they think we have failed to reply to their messages.

Any ideas??

You can check the working and set up of your Neufbox here: http://192.168.1.1/

Possibly they have called while you were using the phone? If so they will be put straight through to the answering service which will be in French if you haven't recorded your own message.

Another possibility is that you have it set up to reject anonymous calls and your friends have their numbers masked. Try https://espace-client.sfr.fr/moncompte- ... rie.action (you will have to put in your identifier and password) and go to "Gerer vos options d'appel"

I use a Neufbox for both telephone and internet and it is working fine.

We have an English phone with English message so we really don't know which answer service they can be getting through to.
We can make and receive calls to everyone bar receiving these ones.
Everyone else, even cold callers, gets through.
Thanks for your suggestions, though.

The answer service is provided by Neuf/SFR and has nothing to do with your machine at home. You need to set it up to operate as you wish. Have you tried the links I suggested? They are, unfortunately, a bit difficult to follow if your French isn't that good :(
