Newsflash: future changes to UK TV Satellite Reception.

News came out this week that Sky will be (temporarily) using a new satellite in 2013 for the FTA Broadcasts and the 'Chatter' is that maybe a 80-100cm. Dish will then be needed. It is only Speculation at this time BUT i have decided that i will offer to install a 90cm. Dish on all new Installations (40euros extra) if anyone wants to be a bit surer for the future.

HOWEVER..... Sky are also due to replace all the Satellites they currently use in around 2014/2015 and no-one is sure how this will affect the situation on reception outside the UK.

I will try and post any future information as it comes out.

Cheers

no offence taken!!!....however, if the situation does indeed take a turn for the worse, (but can be 'fixed' by the installation of a Bigger Dish) ....i may have too much work!!!!...
I would personally prefer that the 'Status Quo' is maintained!!

When I did my DIY installation my daughter put me in touch with a Brit who has been installing satellite equipment since the analogue era .

He said he has always insisted on 85cm plus dishes for SKY. He was also very keen on well braced, sturdy mounts because it can get very windy down here.

Either a Sky Zone 2 or a local 80cm. Dish has been fine down here up until now..... i started by installing the Sky Zone 2 Dishes which are still working well, but switched to the 80cm. Dish after having problems with the supply of the Sky Zone 2. In fact these dishes cost me a bit extra but i absorbed this extra ccost until i recently found a 80cm. Dish with a metal LNB Holder again at a slightly higher price and had to put up my price (10 euros) to cover these extra costs.!!
i always worked on the premise of 'the smaller the dish the less wind resitance'.
i always make a point of mounting the Dish in a sheltered position with a solid fixing. ie against a wall or chimney breast where the dish is protected from the Cers.
the area around here has been a signal 'hotspot' but what will happen after the changes we will have to see.
see the map of the Astra2 D footprint.
