Harvest 2014

Post by BT » Fri 29 Aug 2014 00:02

Hi Santiago,
Just read the post on your website, I should have checked there first!
Day 1 over, I hope the weather is kind to you for the next few weeks. Do you think the rest of the harvest will also be on the small side?

Regards

BT

If the Indian Summer continues we will be fine. If we get storms, and especially hail, we'll be rather upset. The Muscat we picked last week was lovely. Ripe flavours and balanced acids but lower sugar and therefore lower alcohol, which is good.

My yields this year are low, unlike what I'm hearing as the general case. I suspect it's a combination of organic soil-management and a rather overzealous pruner.

As an aside, next Saturday evening (6th Sept) we are holding the second annual "Vignerons des Aspres" wine fair in Caves Byrrh in Thuir, from 18:00 onwards. Last year we had 20 producers and around 700 visitors and I expect it to be bigger and better this year.

Here's an article on the Roussillon harvest that Jancis Robinson published.

Hi Santigo,

How are the 2014 wines developing?

A bit early to say. I've not tasted many 2014 wines from other producers yet. For me the Syrah is superb and the Muscat is very nicely balanced. The Grenache is a little lighter in colour and power than usual.
