Chateauneuf du Pape, Domaine du Grand Veneur 1978

Post by Kate » Sat 02 Mar 2013 10:30

My aged papa in Leeds is about to throw this large bottle (about 1 and 1/2 litres I think) away as he is moving into sheltered accom and says he is getting rid of all his old stuff!! Anybody know if this would still be good? It's beem kept on a wine rack in the dark for about 25 years!! He has already got rid of a load of other 'old bottles'

Any advice on whether it is worth keeping or should just follow the others to the skip!!!

Are there no charities in Leeds wanting to do charity auctions? I am not in Leeds otherwise I would drive my skip (aka Car) there to help out.

Thanks though John for the lovely offer of your 'skip'. Papa is in his 90s and would totally freak out if he had to find out about auctions. Here now, and have saved the bottle, complete with ancient looking wooden presentation box. Shame I can't take it back in my handluggage!!

The only way to go is to repent, sorry, decant and enjoy.

A friend in Switzerland, who had quite a bit of good wines, decided to ask the owner of her fav. restaurant. Quickly made an agree to sell the wine to her.

Maybe you know some restaurant owner in Leeds who would make a deal too. Then, you can use the wine money to your dad's needs.
