Foire aux Vins

Post by Santiago » Sun 02 Sep 2012 14:08

The annual Foire aux Vins is starting. This is a time when the supermarkets stock up on special parcels of wine not normally on sale.

There are a few special offers around but I would advise buying a bottle and trying it first before you leap in for the 12 for the price of 6 or whatever. There is a reason why those wines are discounted and I must admit I've never been pleased with my discounted purchases.

It's a good opportunity to stock up on wines not normally found here for laying down for later in the year, or for the next few years, notably Bordeaux. It's worth doing a bit of homework using the Pub that is sent out to decide on a shopping list. Though not foolproof, a good score from RVF and/or Guide Hachette are a means of avoiding the chaff.
