EDF error

My thanks to Kate for highlighting the recent EDF error

I must confess that I hadn't noticed that they had taken the payment twice and was puzzled that they had reversed the payment.
I am now 758€ better off than I thought I was.
It is easy to trust large enterprises like EDF but clearly they are as error-prone as anyone else.
A few months ago I put all my French tax and social payments onto direct debit. So far 2 of them have taken the same payment twice and le RAM has sent me notices that I am in arrears despite having taken the payment by direct debi.
They have always returned the money when asked but have never bothered to reply to my letters, or to explain and perhaps apologise.
So Kate's advice to check bank statements applies to more than just EDF.
