Internet scam aimed at Rental Home owners

Post by Santiago »

Received from Owners Direct....

Urgent Update: Please be Aware of New Online Identity Theft (Phishing) Scam

We want you to be aware of a new online scam targeted at unsuspecting owners and property managers.

The most common form of online identity theft (also known as "phishing") occurs when a criminal is able to capture your email password and access your inbox. When your email account is phished, criminals are able to intercept enquiries from travellers and request reservation payments without your knowledge. In short, your guests can lose money and you can lose reservations.

Owners Direct is proud to operate one of the most trusted online holiday rental marketplaces in the industry, and in order to maintain this high level of protection we have a number of safeguards in place to protect our owners' emails on our website (such as security questions).

This week, phishers have been sending fake enquiries and fake login pages replicating email providers' branding, imagery and site pages in an attempt to take over owners' and property manager's email accounts.

We believe these attacks are specifically targeting Gmail, Yahoo! Mail, Hotmail and Windows Live users.

Only use your email service provider's official login page.

The current scam works as follows: If you open a fake enquiry email, the scammer will send you, normally via a link in that email, to a webpage indicating that your email session has ended and that you need to log back in. The page on which you will be asked to log in is actually a fake email login page that looks almost identical to an official Gmail, Yahoo! Mail, Hotmail or Windows Live login page.

Warning, if your session is interrupted, do not log in on that page, as doing will give phishers full access to your email account and they would consequently be able to intercept ANY emails coming in to this account, including enquiries being sent via Owners Direct.

What to look out for.

In these recent attacks, the webpage URL contains several numbers in a random order. Always log in to your email account by typing in the official URL. The official login URL of your email service provider will contain recognisable English words, such as:

Gmail: accounts.google.com or mail.google.com
Yahoo! Mail: login.yahoo.com or mail.yahoo.com
Hotmail/Windows Live: login.live.com

Post by lisaheden »

pcmart247 is a scamming tech support and the proof is that they have decided to cheat customers with a different name now www.cytechmart.com ... Cytechmart is purely a phishing site to try and get you to buy services you do not require.. Their new toll free number is 1-800-474-0168 i tried calling them but they acted as they don't know me. I'm planning to report it to better business bureau.

Another American Organisation. Keep your virus checker up to date.
You should then have no problems. Its obviously aimed at men, we women are generally not stupid when it comes to business.
But men sucker us every time in love.
