Hi all. Can anyone recommend a shop in Perpignan with a good selection of snow chains? I need two pairs for my Suzuki 4x4.

Amazon.fr or any one of many other online stores, if you search on "chaine à neige en ligne": I've used this one for other things quite happily

http://www.mister-auto.com/chaines/?&mk ... chaine%20à%20neige&pmt=p&gclid=CjwKEAiAlNbEBRCv9uy4j4SWrgwSJAB5MqJFyDkpm6bQKt3CvSd8aPGyvUQmu_MlCZKowosEVcYuIxoCW8Hw_wcB

I'm not trying to be facetious or snarky. I have a particular loathing for traipsing round outer Perpignan looking for things that they ultimately don't have, or not in your size, even once you find the shop. But even apart from that, snow chains seem to me exactly the sort of thing that you can buy much more easily, pretty much as quickly (particularly at 17.21 on a Saturday afternoon), and more cheaply on line than in a physical shop.

Thanks Martyn, I'll give Amazon a try. You're right, the lack of actual stock in some French outlets is exasperating.

It's a question of what economists call search costs. As an early user of amazon, I still tend to think that it's about buying books and records cheaply; and similarly with eBay that it's about buying random things really cheaply. But nowadays, for me, they are both about buying slightly unusual things - almost anything - with a minimum of effort, and without paying much or any premium for the privilege.

It still takes a bit of mental adjustment. I have been looking for juniper berries for weeks - they ought to be readily available but seem not to be locally. And then the light went on: why not try amazon? I ended up paying about €5 for 20 years' supply. It goes against the grain psychologically - I picked my last lot for nothing off a bush in a friend's garden , and they are the sort of thing that I am conditioned to buy in food shops. But it beats spending an hour going to Intermarché in Argèles, and paying for the diesel, and then maybe finding that they don't have them either.

Anyone under, say, 30 would find this quaint: what's a "shop"?

Norauto and Feu Vert are pretty much next to each other at the big at Porte d'Espagne. They both have show chains.
