Engish 'White Sliced' Bread

Post by montgolfiere »

I came across 'French made' Pain 'a l'Anglais' in Carrefour Market Quillan yesterday at a 'normal' price.. It was with all the usual French ' Packet' Breads. It had a Union Jack on the wrapper which was what brought it to my attention. Maybe the 'other' Carrefour stores in the region will also keep it?!
My 7 year old was happy as we give him this treat once a week at weekends!!!! (he likes it nwith Roses Lime Marmalade!!)

Is it like English bread or is it still a bit sweet?

My Son says it was exactly like UK Supermarket White Sliced!!
Not the Horrid Sweet Pain de Miethat the French seem to favour..

Super U, Prades, sell Harry's 'Toastiligne' which is exactly like British sliced bread and it comes in Nature (white) or Complet (kind of light wholemeal). We discovered this when we first moved out here, thankfully, and have been buying it for five years or more - makes great toast.

Toastaligne is certainly the nearest we've found to English bread.

We've talked our village boulangerie to make us an English loaf each day. He's still only making one but I'm sure it will catch on ...

I always have Jacksons English sliced bread, both white and wholemeal, in stock.

4pm Bezier-man flight.

I will not be sampling white sliced bread whilst there, wholemeal/wholegrain for me!

Cant beat egg mayo or tuna sweetcorn between a couple of slices of white.
