We were with AXA but then found Groupama to be much cheaper for us, When we went with Groupama they notified Axa that we would not be renewing with them, several months later we had some mail sent onto us from our old UK address in this mail were some letters from a debt collection agency informing us that Axa were seeking legal action against us because we hadn't paid our insurance renewal.
We contacted Axa and told them Groupama had informed them that we would not be renewing, we also asked why they had sent the renewal to our address here but gave our old UK address to a debt collection agency.
we had to collect the proof of cancellation from groupama and send it recorded delivery to both Axa and the debt collectors, The debt collectors accepted this and said no further action would be taken, Thinking this was the end of it then suddenly a few months later we got a letter from yet another debt collection agency stating Axa was seeking legal action, We contacted the company and explained plus emailed them all documents concerning this issue, the debt collectors have agreed that there was never any debt owing, but what a nightmare especially sending the letters to an old address it was only by sheer luck the letters got past onto us.

Hi, We were insured with AXA through the broker in the Albères, all was well until we made a claim. They were not so helpful then, after having a private investigator calling at our house and being accused of fraud we decided to take on an Avocat (a mere 1000€), 4 years later we eventually went to court and won our case, so beware ! and all you English people driving on English number plates (although your broker may say its ok) should be aware that after 6 months you are not legally covered.

I started a thread on this only this morning!
http://forum.anglophone-direct.com/ftopic10324.php
after reading comments in another place.
Back to AXA.
I have made 3 claims with them
2 of them ended in satisfaction , one concerning a stolen moped unfortunatly did not.
groupama, we had one claim with them for vandalism to a car; No problem with the insurance and no loss of bonus.

Insurance
Couple of questions :
1. Is the property going to be insured as your main home or as a secondary holiday home.
2. If its a holiday home, it is possible to insure in the UK with UK holiday home specialists.
We do this as we prefer to have policies in English and should we have any claims be able to converse in English as out French is not strong enough especially with technical insurance terms.
I am happy to send you details of the companies we have used if you would like to IM me.
I have no links to these companies. Alternatively you could Google " Holiday home insurance "

You don't say where you are based but Rachel at the Millas branch of Groupama speaks a little English.Davidsimon wrote:Does anyone have the contact details of a Groupama agent who speaks English for a car insurance quote?
However I changed from Groupama to MACIF for my vehicles as they gave a better deal. One of the advisers as their Perpignan office speaks fluent English.
